CASTLE

In the heart of the National Park, stands Rocca Cilento Castle: a boutique hotel where you can regenerate yourself by experiencing a dream stay. The manor houses exclusive rooms and suites and offers various experiences among elegant rooms, panoramic terraces and spaces for tastings and cooking classes.

A historic home, established as a fortress in 1119 (although documents attest to its existence even earlier, circa 963 and 994), the Castle, redeveloped after careful restoration work by Architect Stefano Sgueglia, preserves intact the identity and charm of yesteryear, in a modern guise with contemporary design.

The forecourts and terraces, located at the highest point of the manor, offer the eye ever-changing panoramic views, from the surrounding valleys overlooking perched villages, to the peaks of the hillsides to the coast.

THE SGUEGLIA

FAMILY

Stefano, Pina, Tonio and Piera are the protagonists of a wonderful story of love and an extraordinary dream. Each with his or her own role, with the dedication and passion of tireless workers, strong in an unbreakable family bond, they have dedicated body and soul to the realization of the visionary project of the progenitor Stefano: the rebirth of two of the most beautiful castles in Campania – Limatola Castle and Rocca Cilento Castle – in a fairytale project between tradition and innovation.

Stefano Sgueglia, a native of Caserta, a charismatic, down-to-earth and forward-thinking figure, has dedicated his life to realizing the initiatives he always dreamed of, with the constant support of his family. From a venture in fashion to a degree in architecture, the step was not too long.

Stefano has put skills and passion at the service of the great work of recovery of the two Castles, which soon revealed itself to be much more than a personal ambition: an extraordinary project for the enhancement of two territories and their respective communities, to which Stefano is strongly attached. His commitment, recognized nationally, earned him the appointment as AssoCastelli Consul for Campania.

Pina Martone, wife and mother, trusted advisor and then manager, along a beautiful 46-year journey as a couple. With a degree in languages, Pina is a teacher satisfied with her work, until in the year 2000 Stefano began to involve her in his ambitious project to restore Limatola Castle. At first a dispenser of advice – particularly on everything related to restoration and furnishings – until she became manager of the structure, Pina was responsible for organizing events, weddings and the now famous Christmas Markets, recognized as among the most important in Europe. The experience gained in the management of Limatola Castle and the successful results that have come over the years have allowed Pina to follow Stefano with enthusiasm and conviction also in the project of rebirth of Rocca Cilento Castle.

It is now the year 2016, and the fairy tale continues and is handed down to the children. Tonio, a construction engineer and the eldest son of the Sgueglia household, already as a student joined his father in the impressive work of recovering and restoring the Rocca Cilento Castle, never neglecting the administrative management of the family business. And not only that. With Maestro Beppe Vessicchio, a longtime friend of the Sgueglias, Tonio tried his hand at a young and innovative experiment: the production of “Gin Orchestra,” a natural gin that is the result of the combination of music, drink and sociability.

Piera put to good use her passion for fashion and creativity inherited from her mother and father, graduating in Fashion Design in Milan, a city that could surely have offered her many job opportunities. But the passion for the Castles transmitted by her parents overwhelms her as well. So Piera threw herself headlong into the activities most congenial to her, in particular following her mother in the organization of weddings and fairy tale events, bringing to the family business that touch of innovation especially in terms of social communication and public relations, so that the fairy tale continues even through the language favored by the new generations.

“Stefano's passing has left a huge void but at the same time we feel filled with his love and teachings. His is an enduring legacy that we intend to honor through the continuation of the projects that he dreamed and implemented with passion and courage.”
